ProPak Asia launches biggest in PH for the first time

ProPak, the biggest international processing and packaging trade event in Asia, comes to the Philippines for the first time.

Slated on January 24-26, at the World Trade Center Manila, ProPak Philippines will be the first-of-its-kind food, drink, and pharmaceutical-focused international trade exhibition in the country, in response to the rapidly expanding processing & packaging industries, and the government initiatives to encourage the growth of local industries.

"We are launching ProPak Philippines to a backdrop of a very strong industry and strong government objectives and initiatives to drive it forward. We are very pleased that we have all of this strong support to support this first step into the Philippine market,”states Justin Pau, general manager of UBM Asia (Thailand) and project head of ProPak Philippines.

ProPak Philippines will host more than a hundred local and international exhibitors representing the manufacturing and packaging sectors, including food processing, quality control, machinery and automation, bottling, brewing, waste management, food safety, and many more.

In 2017, the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) launched the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2021 as part of the AmBisyon Natin 2040 socioeconomic agenda. The PDP cited export objectives, including increasing the growth and competitiveness of exporters through development, and the diversification of export products and markets, as priority areas.

With about 6000 expected attendees from various sectors, ProPak Philippines aims to be a conduit for business owners, manufacturers and retailers to extend the reach of their products and services through packaging technologies.

“We have high GDP growth happening in the Philippines and this is predicted to continue in the coming years right up until 2020,”Pau states. “Food exports are increasing rapidly, and this also from a government directive to upgrade MSME production in order to increase exports. Food exports have grown over 30 percent per year and, one of the key factors is the packaging that is required for exporting.’’

Apart from the exhibits, ProPak Philippines will also feature seminars where the latest industry developments, trends and techniques in supply chain management and innovation, food, drink, and pharmaceutical processing and packaging methods will be presented. There will also be networking and business opportunities.

ProPak Philippines is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Packaging Institute of the Philippines, the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines, the Production Management Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Printing Technical Foundation, the Association of Laguna Food Processors Inc., the Philippine Association of Food Technologists Inc., and other allied industries and associations.

The Philippines is ProPak’s first stop in a series of launches happening throughout Asia this year, namely: ProPak Vietnam 2019, from March 19-21 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center, Ho Chi Minh City; Propak Asia 2019, to be held from June 12-15 at BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand; ProPak China 2019, from June 19 to 21 at the NECC in Shanghai; ProPak Myanmar 2019, from the 12th to 14th of September, Yangon Convention Center, Yangon, and Propak India 2019—from October 21 until 23 at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai

Propak Philippines is organized by UBM and is set to launch at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City. For more information, including registration details, visit www.propakphilippines.com

Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair: A Festival of Jewellery Design and Artistry

The Singapore Jewellery and Gem Fair (SJGF), which opens to public today at Marina Bay Sands (Hall A & B) till 29 October, brings a wide showcase of exquisitely designed and made jewellery pieces from more than 120 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions.

The pilot launch of the digital service for Hand-Carried Exports Scheme (HCES) was a key highlight of the event's welcome ceremony. Underlining the launch in his welcome address, Mr. Ho, President, Singapore Jewellers Association (SJA) spoke about the current HCES, which allowed suppliers to zero-rate, or charge GST (Goods & Services Tax) at 0 per cent on their supplies of goods hand-carried out of Singapore via Changi International Airport to their overseas customers. This scheme will be digitalised, driving end to end digitisation of the permit declaration and endorsement. Suppliers can now receive a digitised permit clearance, instead of the carrier posting the endorsed physical permit clearance back to them. This provides a digital loop, eliminating the need for the paper return.

In his speech, Mr Ho also emphasised on the importance of attracting young blood and foster entrepreneurship in the jewellery [design] industry, "The jewellery industry has truly evolved over the years, especially in recent years, when we see the emergence of home grown jewellery designers. Some have sought to break from tradition, while others have created something new from tradition. We believe this is what makes the industry a dynamic market to work in," he said.

"From the very beginning, the Singapore Jewellery and Gem Fair has strived to be the platform for the local jewellery industry to share their knowledge and expertise with industry and public communities By doing this, we hope to enhance the profiles of home-grown jewellery designers and spotlight developments in the jewellery design scene. A visit to the show offers our visitors a holistic experience, as they will be able to see, touch, listen and even taste the event through the various event highlights and activities," said Mr. Andrew Tan, Senior Event Manager, Food & Hospitality & Lifestyle from event organiser, UBM.

For individuals keen to test their creativity, they can join the Design-Your-Ring competition at the event. With help from JDMIS ambassadors on the ground, visitors will be guided through the design process in 15 minutes.

To wind down from all the excitement, visitors can enjoy complimentary hot or cold cups of the 'Singapore Dream' -- a specially designed tea for SJGF by Tea Forté and Gifel Fine Teas. Be the first to have a taste at SJGF's Tea Bar!

Themed as “innovative, eco-friendly and sustainable,” the 3rd edition of Asia AgriTech Expo & Forum will be launched at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 1 from 31st Oct to 2nd Nov, 2019 and co-located with Aquaculture Taiwan & Livestock Taiwan Expo & Forum. “The 2018 edition enlisted 210 exhibitors and 400 booths to attract more than 14,000 visitors from 34 countries. Compared to the previous year, the growth rate for visitors increased 20 percent,” said Sabine Liu, General Manager of UBM Taiwan. Based upon the post-show report 2018, the top three visiting purposes are collecting market information, looking for new products and networking with suppliers; while the top primary requested products are devices with IoT technology, automatic equipment and biogas facilities. Smart, precision agriculture and renewable technology are undoubtedly the industrial trends that Asia-Pacific buyers are looking at.

According to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO), the AsiaPacific is suggested to focus on protecting agriculture from climate change. At present, Taiwan is well-performing and has had breakthrough results in embedding IoT and biological technology into agricultural practice. This has accelerated agricultural development and has drawn attention from ASEAN buyers. UBM Asia has therefore decided to develop a spin-off of the agricultural tradeshow in Shanghai debuting in 2019. Ms. Liu believes that the agritech exhibition will be spread to more countries in the near future. “I’m glad to see more innovative technology carried forward, so that the integration of agricultural resources can be more achievable,” remarked Sabine Liu.

UBM Taiwan is now recruiting vendors from around the world. There are currently more than 40 brand companies returning for Asia Agri-Tech Expo & Forum 2019 and 1,200 sqm has been taken.
